CHAPPA KURISH

So long awaited release of Chappa kurish, which is an  adaptation from the Korean movie ‘ HAND PHONE ‘ couldn’t make a tide impact among the audience. The film creates mixed responses from the viewers.  The film indeed possess a very intriguing idea behind, but miserably failed to execute it in the proper way, or in a way “terribly misguided “. Start with the best thing – it really had a good theme inside. The story unleashes two types of characters representing two different lifestyles.  Arjun (Fahadh Faasil ), an ambitious corporate guy accidentally loses his ‘iphone’ which contains some confidential files regarding his next project and also a private video with his girlfriend Sonia (Remya nambeesan). The phone comes in the hands of Ansari (vineeth sreenivasan), a worker in a supermarket who has dreams of the big time, but lives a darker reality just like any other commoner. The phone travels from the modernity to the lower class, Ansari’s life slowly changes after the intrusion of the phone. It creates a mysterious confidence and a sense of pride in him. He uses Arjun and starts taking revenge on all the humiliations he suffered from the world so far. Arjun, in a state of helplessness has no other choice but to follow the demands of Ansari, because he fears that the video clip will end up online. When the film reaches the final sequence, we see an Ansari who comes out of his shell of cowardice and a down-hearted Arjun who leaves behind everything and moves out with Soniya, in pursuit of a new world of happiness.

The worst part is that the whole commotion is able to convey only about the journey of an iphone from riches to rags, but it unfortunately failed to bring out the central theme of the film, which was rendered with a very poor screenplay. Viewers can never get involved in the emotion. Even though the first half is engaging, the second half really loosens up and finally ends up nowhere. Despite of all the flaws, it is quite promising that the actors did a fabulous job. Then again, it would have been a different experience if it was structured with a better screenplay, at least with a different second half and climax. Disappointing, Chappa Kurish failed to meet the expectation.

@Prasobh Prathapan actually he was enjoyin the power after getting the iphone…it gives him a sense of dignity, he started doing things, which he always wanted to do. At the final sequence he became completly another man, he is now no more afraid of the public .he walks with a dignity through that filthy street .so that was the reason he cant return it and that was the cental theme of the story ,which they failed to depict ..that is rich are more confident and settled in their life ,which gives them power but poor are not. so when a single element (here its the iphone ) accidentally reaches the poor , it gives him a confidence . finally fahadh’s character loses his dignity in this society so he moves out of it to another..actually in search of “next level of modernity”, so that he ll be happy there……
